Algonquin Thanksgiving / by Ted Kaiser

For the second year in a row, I got to spend a glorious fall day in Algonquin during Canadian Thanksgiving season. This year, I decided to hike the Centennial Ridges Trail, a location that I had never visited before. Though it was a very busy weekend day, it’s a 10km trail, so people were fairly spread out. Still, at some of the amazing cliffside lookout points along the trail overlooking Whitefish Lake, there were many people enjoying the spectacular vistas. The weather was absolutely perfect, very light breeze, sunny, and warm without being too hot at all, about 15-18C. We were able to start the day real quick at Peck Lake since I realized getting onsite at Centennial Ridges would be well past the point of there being good mist on the water. We got into Peck Lake at the tail end of the misty period, with just a trace of mist in the shadowy end of this small lake. Well worth the drive up from the city; a glorious day for an Algonquin hike!
